Specialist Trauma Therapy

Evidence-based healing, at your pace

As a BACP Accredited Psychotherapist and European Accredited EMDR Therapist, I have over 15 years of experience supporting individuals through trauma, anxiety, relationship difficulties, and complex emotional challenges.

Whether your experiences stem from childhood, relationships, abuse, bereavement, accidents, or other significant life events, therapy offers a safe and compassionate space to process what has happened and move towards lasting healing.

Understanding Trauma

What is trauma?

Trauma is not defined solely by what happened to you — it is also about how your mind and body responded to the experience.

Sometimes a single distressing event can leave lasting emotional effects. For others, trauma develops gradually through repeated experiences such as childhood neglect, domestic abuse, bullying, discrimination, emotional abuse, or growing up in an unpredictable environment.

Trauma can affect the way we think, feel, and relate to others. You may find yourself constantly on edge, avoiding certain situations, struggling with anxiety, feeling emotionally numb, or finding it difficult to trust yourself or others.

These are understandable responses to overwhelming experiences — and they can be treated.

The EMDR Approach

What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a highly effective, evidence-based psychotherapy designed to help the brain process traumatic and distressing memories that have become “stuck.” It uses bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements or tapping, while focusing on aspects of a distressing memory — allowing the brain to reprocess the experience naturally and reduce the emotional intensity attached to it.

Unlike traditional talking therapy, EMDR does not require you to repeatedly relive or describe every detail of your trauma. Many clients notice that memories become less distressing, allowing them to move forward without feeling controlled by the past.

EMDR is recommended by organisations including NICE and the World Health Organization (WHO) as an effective treatment for trauma and PTSD.

My Approach

Trauma therapy is never rushed

Before processing traumatic memories, we first work together to build emotional stability, strengthen coping strategies, and ensure you feel safe throughout the therapeutic journey. Every treatment plan is tailored to your individual experiences, goals, and readiness. Alongside EMDR, I integrate other therapeutic approaches where appropriate, recognising that healing is not one-size-fits-all.

Having extensive experience working with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds, particularly within South Asian communities, I also understand the impact that family expectations, cultural identity, intergenerational experiences, and stigma surrounding mental health can have on emotional wellbeing.
